I have decided to sign up for a 50 km ultra trail run in summer 2024.

There, I said it! Now time to actually make it happen…

I have researched a training program, rejoined a running group (that I ghosted for summer plans.. oopsie!) and mentioned my goal to a select few supportive individuals. Although these are good first steps, I will need more to tackle this beast.

The Blog

As this will be my longest distance race by far, I need to bring my accountability strategy to a whole new level. My solution is Head for the Hills. And by that I mean this blog, though it does now occur to me that the title could be interpreted multiple ways…

Creating the blog has been challenging (I have a whole new respect for web designers!) but enjoyable. I am a creative person by nature so it has been a fun way to get pumped for training. I have decided to keep it fairly simple right now and just focus on getting some actual posts up.

Strava

Adding Strava was a bit intimidating because it is an immediate and noneditable record of my progress each week. Anyone who knows about the blog will be able to “check in” on me (also can see my pitiful number of followers.. 9).

Although those initial thoughts are still there, I have realized that Strava works both ways. Sure, it will reveal my shortcomings, but it will also be a way to record my successes! I have a long road ahead of me so celebrating wins on a regular basis while acknowledging areas where I need to improve will be crucial.

I read somewhere that a blog post is supposed to be 2000 words. Seems like an outlandish number to me (this post is only 350 lol), so I have decided to just go with the flow. Updates will be long or short, but they will be consistent.

Looking forward to writing lots more in the months ahead!

P.S. The actual reason behind the name Head for the Hills is that I want to develop the mental strength to absolutely crush hills. As an aspiring trail runner, this is the dream!
